Healthy vs stressed trees

Learn how to look at a young tree and decide if it is healthy or stressed.
A healthy tree usually has green leaves, new growth, a firm stem, healthy bark and strong roots. A stressed tree may show yellow or brown leaves, wilting leaves, no new growth, insect damage, dry soil, weak stems or damaged bark.

Check the bark for wounds or cracks

Look at the soil

Think about water, sunlight, space and protection
